Global Special 2025 Meeting
Reaching New Audiences for Classical Liberalism

Welcome to the Mont Pelerin Society Global Special 2025 Meeting!

Dear Friends,
Welcome to the MPS2025 Global Special Meeting! We are very pleased to announce that it will be held in Marrakech, Morocco, from October 7 to 10, 2025. This Global Special Meeting will examine how people acquire, and change, their worldviews, and how, consequently, the appeal and the application of classical liberal ideas can be widened through a more refined understanding of this process. To that end, we will explore these fundamental questions for the future of classical liberalism by studying, amongst other topics, the role that cultural creations, religious traditions, and some academic disciplines can play in the transmission of our ideas and values.
The decision to host this meeting in Morocco in the city of Marrakech does not denote a desire for exoticism, although this exceptionally pleasant and vibrant city will no doubt bring added flavor to our meeting. Instead, Morocco is at the confluence of different traditions with a geographic position linking it to Europe on one side and to the Arab World and Africa on the other side. Its openness to trade and the presence of communities from different religious and ethnic backgrounds have brought it prosperity and continue to make it an ideal place for dialogue and exchange.
We have planned six sessions on various topics that all deal one way or another with this desire to broaden the appeal of classical liberal ideas and to reach new audiences. One session will for example discuss how to revitalize the largely forgotten free-market tradition of Islam and use it as an inspiration to adopt pro-growth policies and fight radicalization trends in Muslim countries.
Experts on the relatively young disciplines of behavioral economics and evolutionary psychology will debate how to blend a classical liberal perspective with these trendy scientific approaches and interpret them in a way that will appeal both to their practitioners and the educated public.
Given the abysmal failure of international development aid over the past decades, one session will touch upon ways to interest the traditionally reticent development community in a free-market approach to development aid. Finally, our invited experts will discuss how to disseminate classical liberal ideas through cultural creations and convince more members of the artistic community that a liberal society will best guarantee that they can flourish.
Safeguarding and transmitting liberal values is a continuous struggle and a never-ending endeavor. One must be blind not to notice some of the setbacks we have faced, hence the urgency for us to “reach new audiences.” We look forward to seeing you in Marrakech in October 2025 for this much needed dialogue.
